Finca El Triunfo, El Cintular
SHB (Strictly Hard Bean)
Finca El Triunfo is located in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo Viñas in the department (state) of Santa Rosa in the south west of Guatemala.
The farm is currently run and operated by don Gregorio Padilla, a seventy five year old man, grandson to the original founder of the farm, Faustino Padilla. The farm has been farming coffee for 130 years, when it originally had 5,000 hectares in size and was known by the name of El Progreso. Over the years its been divided among different generations and eventually many of the original parts of the farm were sold.
Finca El Triunfo currently sits in the original center of the farm where it manages different units of production of what don Gregorio, his sons and his nephews have been able to acquire to start building back bigger parts of the original farm again, including El Cintular.
The area is considered to be in a Sub Tropical Rain Forest and is part of the extinct volcano of Tecuamburro. It's in a straight line 50 kms away from the Pacific Ocean, and every day at noon it receives the influence of the winds changing with the tide, allowing for the cold winds from the north to come in after the warmth of the morning.
Production is complemented by an all natural compost tea obtained from the lombri-compost made at the farm which feeds and stabilises the composition of the soil, and has allowed for a complete elimination of herbicides.
