It produces large quantities of coffee annually for export. Almost all rural household within the Province own a small plot of coffee as a small family project.
Oakapa like Goroka and Kainantu is a district in the Eastern Highlands province in PNG. Local registered companies from the Okapa Area are involved in growing and buying Okapa Coffee in parchment form from the smaller farmers. Due to the remoteness of the region, the coffee is air freighted out to the nearest town for processing prior to shipment.
