The Bukonzo Joint Cooperative Union is a collective of 11 primary societies in the Rwenzori Mountains of western Uganda representing 5,400 farmers (83% woemen) and their families.
The co-operative is focused on improving the quality of their coffee and to this end, like their counterparts at Gumutindo, they have built a number of small community level washing stations. They have also invested in local water and transport infrastructure, which as well as improving the lives of the community, has cut the time and effort required to get the coffee to the washing stations – thereby also improving the coffee
