This coffee was specialty when fresh - but is now old season coffee.
Situated in the Minas Gerais side of the Serra da Mantiqueira, in the south of the state of Minas Gerais, is the region of Mantiqueira de Minas. With a centennial tradition of producing specialty coffees, Mantiqueira de Minas is today of the most awarded regions in Brazil.
Composed of mostly small producers, this origin is differentiated by the unique characteristics of the territory, mainly for the pioneering work that has been done by the producers in creating rare and astonishing coffees. As the region has some 7,800 producers, 89% being small farmers, the Mantiqueira de Minas Blend, which is composed of various lots from small producers, was created with the goal of introducing small farmers into the specialty coffee market.
What determines the participation of a small farmer’s lots in the Mantiqueira de Minas Blend is the quality of the coffee, this is, its score, and also observance of the Regulations for Use of the Mantiqueira de Minas Geographical Indication, safeguarding the origin and value of a sustainable future for the region.
