The name Tolima comes from the Pijao language and means Snowy River or Cloud.
Tolima is the third-largest coffee producer in the country with over 116 hectares cultivated with coffee in 71 single estates and 61 coffee-producing families.
The excellence of the coffee from this departement is the result of favourable environmental conditions, the characteristics of the soil, and the traditional wet milling and natural drying done by the producers.
