In the 50’s, Hilario Acosta started growing his first coffee trees. Three generations later the family runs three farms, a wet mill, a dry mill, and an export business under the name ‘Cafe de Exportacion SA’ or Cadexsa. Cadexsa’s main operations are based in Marcala but, moving forward, led by the son Omar, they are expanding with the opening of a new mill in Ocotepeque where coffee quality is exceptional.
This coffee from organic Opalaca is produced by a specific group of farmers who are part of the Cadexsa supply chain in West Honduras. The producers were selected based on the consistently high quality of their deliveries. Cadexsa supports growers with training in farm management and assistance with certification. Organic fertilisers and integrated pest management were utilised in farming practices. This allows them to sell their coffee with added value above the commercial pricing level which is a significance difference in the current coffee market in Honduras.
This season the coffee was processed by each individual producer at their own mill, under the quality standards agreed upon by Cadexsa. This way the producers have support throughout the season to maintain or improve the quality of the coffee, as well as a secure buyer. Coffees are hulled and sorted at the Cadexsa dry mill.
In the cup, this coffee has a lot of chocolate and red fruit notes with moderate acidity and a smooth and round body and caramel sweetness making it great as a blender or an espresso on its own.
