The Cooperativa agraria Rodríguez de Mendoza (COOPARM) was founded in 1990 on the initiative of the parish priest of the province, Father Antonio Rodríguez Arana, who, concerned about the low prices received by the coffee farmers from the merchants, gathered a group Of producers and founded with them the Association of Agricultural Producers Rodríguez de Mendoza (APARM).
In the first years it exports its coffee through the Norandino Cooperative of Piura, but since 1998 the important step of exporting directly was taken. It remained an association until 2008, when it became a cooperative.
It currently has more than 500 members and partners which are located throughout the province. Both at local and regional level, it has the recognition that it has been the institution that has had the greatest impact on the economic and social development of the province.
Aware of the global concern for ecological problems, COOPARM has been developing an extensive program of reforestation and agroforestation in agreement with PUR PROJECT, which consists in planting timber trees next to the coffee.
