  • Around 1730, Nicholas Lawes, a former governor of Jamaica brought the first coffee plants to Kingston – descended from the single sapling carried to Martinique from France
  • They flourished especially in the cool misty climate of the Blue Mountains behind Kingston
  • “Blue Mountain” is considered by many to be the best coffee in the world, but, while it is one of the most expensive, it does not rank against some of today’s top specialty and cup of excellence coffees
  • Coffees tend to be sweet, aromatic, slightly acidic and full bodied

The Blue Mountain area is on the Eastern part of Jamaica - where coffee is grown up to 1700 metres in rich soil with excellent drainage.  High Mountain refers to coffee grown outside the region.

Jamaican Coffee from the Blue Mountain district should be clean and mild flavour with no bitterness whatsoever.

However, it can be very difficult to find this coffee.  You will often find Blue Mountain style, type, blend - which may in fact have none of the premium coffee therein.
