  • In the 1700s, coffee cultivation spread to Haiti from Martinique
  • Almost 90% typica
  • Harvest August-March
  • 90% dry processed
  • Haitan coffees are known for their full, slightly sweet flavour – with little acid
  • The Port au Prince variety can have a pungent aroma and spicy aftertaste
  • Most famous coffee is Haitan Bleu – developed in the mid-1990s as a premium coffee comparable to the Jamaican Blue Mountain (and is often added to Blue Mountain to make it go further)

The coffee itself is heavy bodied and full flavoured with mid to low acidity and a soft flavour.
