Ethiopian coffee beans that are grown in either the Harar, Sidamo, Yirga Cheffe, or Limu regions are kept apart and marketed under their regional name, with the rights owned by Ethiopia. Harar Grown in the eastern highlands, it is one of the oldest coffee beans still produced. The beans have a yellowy green colour and are dry processed. Most Harar beans will be longberry - and therefore an elongated shape. Others are shortberry and mocha (which tend to be peaberry). It is grown at an altitude of 2000/2750 metres. Sidamo Grown in the South, where both washed and unwashed coffees are produced. The beans are of medium size and have a greenish/greyish color. Washed Sidamo coffee is particularly appreciated. Yirga Cheffe One of the finest highland grown coffees. Wet processed and grown at high altitudes of 2000/2200 metres. Jimma / Limu Limu is a commonly known coffee region which sits within the politically defined Jimma region. Coffees named Ethiopia Limu are generally wet processed, while the naturals are known as Jimma. |
