S.C.F.C.U. is the second largest cooperative union in Ethiopia, and is a tribal based organisation marketing the coffee produced by Sidama farmers. If was founded in 2001 and represents 53 cooperatives and over 80,000 small-scale farmer families.
Primary co-operatives (like Shanta Golba) are currently investing their fair trade social premiums into construction of schools, roading and transportation, electricity, flour mills, and warehouses. The Union is focused on improving coffee production infrastructure and support.
Shanta Golba produces both washed and natural coffees in a very similar manner to the other primary groups in the union. This coffee has been dried in the cherry on raised beds and is a very clean and well-balanced cup. It has a rich blueberry aroma, bright, sweet citric acidity and a lingering fruity flavour.
