Unroasted coffee beans are generally known as "green".  They are small and hard.  They are at their best for up to 2 years after harvest - with the flavours gradually diminishing.

To ensure that your roasted coffee has the maximum flavour, purchase your coffee in the green state, store it in a dark, dry ventilated area (such as a kitchen pantry) and roast it yourself on demand so that you are drinking it when it is at its best.

Something to be aware of when purchasing green coffee beans, is that given most of them are processed in third world countries, you will find the odd stone, nail, ball bearing etc. in amongst the beans.  Most commercial roasters remove these items after roasting - as the destoning equipment is based on the weight of items and coffee is much lighter after being roasted.  We do a visual check when packaging the beans and we remove anything we see.  If we miss anything, we apologise and please understand that this is a normal element of the coffee world that most are unaware of.  It is not common, but it does happen.  Please check your coffee before it goes in the grinder.

Please see our range of coffees (including specialty coffee) from around the world below.  Each of our arabica coffees are suitable to be roasted and consumed on their own without any further blending required unless you so wish.

Our unroasted coffee beans can be purchased in several sizes of bags - 400g Samplers, 1 KG, 2 KG, 4 KG or 10 KG (in 2 x 5 KG bags) with the price reducing as the size increases.

Most can also be purchased in 20 KG lined boxes.

  • robusta
    Robusta
Robusta is a commonly referred to name for the canephora varietal (most others sit within the arabica category).' Despite its flavour being considered less refined, robusta is widely used in espresso blends because it is known to produce a better crema (the creamy layer found on top of an espresso shot) than arabica. All of our robusta coffees are noted as such in the description and shown here. You can assume that if the description does not contain the word "robusta" then it is arabica.

Recommendations

If you are new to roasting, try one of the cheaper origins to practice on.  Once you have your beans roasted to the level you like, you may want to try some sampler packs to experiment with beans from different countries that may have been processed differently.

We will continue to expand our range of blends and single origin beans - so please give us your feedback.

We'd love to know what you like and what you would like to try.
